Every decision I seem to make always takes me a long time, I like to mull things over in my head perhaps too much. I have been thinking about frameworks for a while and I had delved into Symfony but not really got on with it and this had narrowed my decision down to cake or zend. I thought about this for a while and decided with zend because it is supported by a bigger community and it is also the framework of choice for Magento.

When I first started to write a swear filter, I thought the problem was as simple as matching a words on a banned list with your string, but the more I thought about the problem the more complex the problem became

 

As a web developer I have always looked for a decent source of web browser stats, as like every other developer I wish to see the back of Internet Explorer 6.0.

I have just been building an app using a lot of AJAX, I had been testing in Chrome and Firefox as I (stupidly) thought jquery simply works regardless of browser. There is a flaw and after a small panic I found the solution.

I create Web Apps in PHP and these usually require an image upload of some kind, unfortunately clients are likely to upload images that are simply too big to be put on a web site, so I felt I needed a PHP script to resize an image if it exceeds a predefined limit.

I realised that I had taken no time off from work this year, so I decided I should treat my self to a week of absolutely nothing. Here is my cycle route for today, in the glorious sunshine.

Web pages tend to have more and more content these days, with faster internet connections and companies competing for search rankings on Google. Keeping web pages interesting and concise by managing page content through Javascript, used to be an art, and at times even a challenge for experienced programmers to master, due to its inconsistancy  and poorly formed structure. Jquery has made my life so easy and is making web pages around the world more interesting.

As a web developer, you are constrained by the environment in which you develop, namely the web browser. The language of the internet is HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) this is currently at version 4, but version 5 is around the corner and the search giant Google is pushing hard for it to become the standard.
